Description
MIDTOWN ABBI
1W-Y
[Bicolor Trumpet 1b]
(?Dutch origin, pre-1900; probably N. abscissus × N. bicolor)
A daffodil of contrasts, combining the elegantly slender, long straight trumpet of N. abscissus with the obscurely lobed, lightly crenate and recurved trumpet rim of N. bicolor. These late-flowering bicolours are closely related, and we suspect that MIDTOWN ABBI is a hybrid between the two. The spreading perianth segments are closer to the white of N. bicolor than the sulphury cream of N. abscissus, but the midrib on the outer face is etched in pale gold. Narcissus bicolor has a lightly furrowed, soft canary-/empire-yellow trumpet; N. abscissus has bestowed the darker gold, turbinate perianth tube; narrower foliage and a dwarfer habit. We have pondered whether this might be ‘Ada Brooke’, but can’t entirely convince ourselves.
