“… one of the best of the Barrii varieties” (The Garden, 1927). Cup colouring varies between solid, intense orange-red and warm orange with a yellow-orange eye zone — even stocks with a dark corona originally can become paler. Much of the perianth can be suffused soft pale lemon at first and the spreading, ovate perianth segments remain stained bright lemon at the base, and can seem, characteristically, rather elliptic-oblong with a rounded apex.
