Description
‘Red Beacon’
3W-O(b)
[Barrii]
(Williams, J.C., pre-1910)
A sweetly-scented, small flower, only 80 mm wide. An outrageously-long, scarious spathe peeks out between the neat, milk-white perianth segments. The bright, shallow corona has a tightly-ruffled rim and pleats of persimmon-orange – the latter extending to a pale green eye on a soft apricot-orange ground. As Bowles observes in A Handbook of Narcissus, ‘Red Beacon’ “… is good enough to represent the red-cupped race in any garden”.
