Description
‘Plenipo’
4W-Y
[Double 10]
(Engleheart, G.H.; pre-1904)
For many years this has been an untidy flower with us, defying identification, but this season the three or four whorls of milk-white, slender-ovate, petaloid perianth segments, which become progressively smaller towards the centre, are neatly layered on top of each other. The coronal petaloid segments are a conspicuous spiral of closely ruffled, clear primrose-yellow at the centre of the flower. Nestling directly on top of the petaloid perianth segments, short, wide, smoother segments offer glimpses of yellow, the uneven crenations of the rippled margins dabbed richer, soft saffron-yellow here and there. Although the flower has been classified as 4 (10 in old money) Y-Y, and the petaloid perianth segments are sometimes described as sulphur-yellow, illustrations show a contrasting flower of milk-white and lustrous yellow. Has light, sweet, Poeticus scent.
