Description
‘Paramount’
2Y-O
[Incomparabilis 2a]
(Chapman, F.H., pre-1926; ‘Crimson Braid’ hybrid)
This flower resembles a darker coloured ‘Whitewell’. The smooth, very broadly ovate, outer perianth segments are cream, scarcely tinged palest yellow, but the basal half of the smaller, less shapely inner perianth segments is stained soft mimosa-yellow, with faint tinges of pale apricot along the ribs. The strongly pleated corona is a widely expanded, relatively shallow bowl of various shades of fiery orange, scored darker along the deep grooves. At maturity the mouth is nearly circular, but the cup margin varies between scalloped to gently ruffled and crenulate depending on the distribution of the folds and furrowing.
