Description
Nelsonii ‘Major’
2W-Y(b)
[Incomparabilis]
(Leeds, E., pre-1877)
This Group, popular by the 1890s, commemorates the Revd J.G. Nelson, who cultivated 26 acres of glebe at Aldborough, Norfolk. The original, late-flowering “stove pipe” daffodils, like this one, exhibit the cylindrical trumpet of N. bicolor and N. abscissus, but some later hybrids have more expanded, campanulate coronas. After exhaustive comparisons of the available archives, we have concluded that this stock is the cultivar ‘Major’.
