Description
N. pseudonarcissus
13Y-Y
[Species]
(W. Europe, including England & Wales)
Far and away our best selection of Lent lily, sent to us by a kind gentleman in Sweden as N. pseudonarcissus var. scoticus, which is better known as N. pseudonarcissus var. humilis in botanical circles. Except that we don’t believe that this astonishingly good selection is true N. scoticus hort., which is dwarf (even for the Lent lily), with a whiter perianth and a very fimbriate margin to the trumpet: in short, requiring a hearty meal of broth, haggis and neeps. We think we have the true peelie-wallie lassie from an estate not fifty miles from here, whereas this beautiful selection is vigorous and floriferous even if congested, and has relatively large, long-lasting flowers of more typical colouring. Clearly, she stoked up on pea soup and pancakes before her departure, as she is, truly, an exceptional clone. Still dwarf and very early flowering.
