Description
‘Coverack Glory’
2Y-Y
[Incomparabilis 2a]
(Williams, P.D., pre-1927)
Another fine daffodil bred by P.D. Williams of Lanarth, Cornwall. It was bought as a seedling by A.F. Calvert – proprietor of Carnsulan Nurseries at nearby Coverack, best remembered for publishing Daffodil Growing for Pleasure and Profit (1929), a fine collection of papers contributed by respected daffodil alumni. Although vigorous and early, with long-lasting flowers borne on tall, erect stems, this uncommon “Incomp” didn’t share the limelight with its widely grown “P.D.” cousins, ‘California’ and ‘Carlton’. There is a passing similarity to both, but the smooth corona of ‘Coverack Glory’ is less chiselled and paler than ‘California’’s and the mouth more flared. The corona rim is gently, evenly, crenate and serrate rather than flamboyantly ruffled as in ‘Carlton’.
